The Education Corner: September Edition

Good morning, TCUSD Family,
I am excited to share this month’s Education Corner, focused on something that sits at the heart of everything we do: helping every child become a strong, confident reader. This month, we are highlighting the Science of Reading: the research behind how children learn to read and what that research means for instruction in our classrooms. I also wanted this Education Corner to include our own data because the “WHY” matters. Data is not about labeling our students or our schools. It gives us a starting point, helps us identify where we need to grow, and reminds us of the urgency of the work in front of us.
Most importantly, our students are more than a percentage. They are Warriors with tremendous potential, and I believe deeply in what they can accomplish when we provide excellent instruction, high expectations, meaningful support, and adults who refuse to give up on them. As you look through the attached Education Corner, I hope you will see that the Science of Reading is not simply another initiative. It is about strengthening the foundation our students need to succeed in every subject, at every grade level, and long after they leave TCUSD.
To our teachers, paraprofessionals, principals, instructional staff, and everyone supporting our students, THANK YOU! Research may give us the roadmap, but you bring it to life every day for our kids. We have work ahead of us, but I believe in this team, and I believe in our students. Every student. Every day. Every opportunity.
Stronger Together,
