August 4, 2025

Welcome NAA Families!

We are excited to kick off the 2025–2026 school year and thrilled to welcome 27 new students to Nizhoni Accelerated Academy. We look forward to a year filled with growth, learning, and community.

My name is Ms. DuShon Monongye, and I am honored to serve as the Interim Director of Nizhoni Accelerated Academy, going on in my second year. I come from the Hopi Nation, the village of Old Orayvi, Arizona. My clanship is Pikyaswungwa (Corn Clan).

I bring with me 28 years of experience in education and am a proud alumna of Northern Arizona University. I’ve served as a school counselor for both high school and elementary students and now, I step into school leadership with deep gratitude and commitment.

My message for us all is this:
Let us nurture the spirit, intellect, and energy of our students as we continue building a positive and productive learning environment—one that fosters achievement, belonging, confidence, and a passion for learning. At NAA, we place great emphasis on creating and sustaining a caring community. As we grow, we are also evolving into a trauma-informed, resilient school, where every student feels supported and empowered.

A few reminders as we start the year. We are asking for your continued support in the following areas: Attendance and punctuality are key to student success. Please help ensure your child is at school and on time every day. We are also asking for your continued support with our cell phone policy. Phones should remain off and stored away during the school day to minimize distractions and encourage focused learning. Lastly, we do not allow food or drinks to be dropped off too our students during lunch as they do receive a lunch meal.

Thank you for being a valued part of our school community. Together, we will make this year one of GROWTH, PURPOSE, and PRIDE. Asqwali (thank you).

With appreciation,
Ms. DuShon Monongye, M.Ed. – Interim Director/Counselor
