Monday Motivation: Make the Growth Visible

Good morning, TCUSD Family,
As we begin a new week and a new month, I want to focus on something that gives our work purpose and momentum: seeing our students grow. There is something powerful about a student saying, “I couldn’t do this before, but now I can.” Behind those words are practice, feedback, encouragement, and someone who kept finding ways to help the learning stick. That is why evidence of learning matters. It helps us see what is working, recognize where students need something different, and decide what to do next. It also gives us something worth celebrating.
Sometimes that evidence is a student reaching proficiency on a standard. Sometimes it is a stronger explanation, a more fluent reader, or a student finally solving a problem independently. Growth deserves recognition, and proficiency gives us a clear destination. Our job is to keep connecting the two: recognize the progress, maintain the expectation, and help students take their next step.
This week, I encourage our teachers and leaders to ask: What can our students do today that they could not do before and how do we know? Look at their work. Listen to their thinking. Give them feedback they can use. When something works, share it with a colleague. When students are still struggling, work together to find the next approach. And make sure our students see their own progress. Show them where they started, what they have learned, and what comes next. Confidence grows when students have evidence that their effort is paying off.
Every member of our TCUSD team helps create the conditions for that learning. Getting students to school, keeping our campuses ready, feeding our kids, supporting our families, and making classrooms places where students can focus all contribute to their success. Thank you for the work you put into helping our Warriors move forward. Let’s make this a week of progress we can see, learning we can celebrate, and the next steps we take together.
Stronger Together,
