Friday Reflection - The Habits We Build Together

Good morning, TCUSD Family!
On Monday, I shared a simple message: Our thoughts shape our actions. Our actions become our habits. And our habits ultimately shape who we become. As we close out this week, I want us to think about what that looked like in our own work. When something didn’t go as planned, how did we respond? When a colleague needed support, did we make time? When a student struggled, did we try another approach and remind them we believed in them? Those everyday decisions matter. They shape how our students experience school and how we experience working alongside one another. The things we do consistently become the culture people feel when they walk through our doors. That culture belongs to all of us. It grows when we greet students by name, come prepared, follow through on a commitment, or take a moment to listen before responding. It grows when we hold high expectations and give students and each other the support to meet them.
This week also gave us opportunities to celebrate our Warriors and the people who serve them. Those moments deserve our appreciation. Behind every celebration are people putting in the daily work, often without recognition. Thank you for that work. As you reflect today, take a minute to ask yourself:
-
What did I do this week that made a difference for a student or colleague?
-
What is one habit I want to carry into next week?
-
Where could I have handled something better, and what would I do differently?
I am asking myself those same questions. As your superintendent, I have a responsibility to keep learning, listen carefully, and follow through. Growth is something we should expect of ourselves at every level. You may leave this week with unfinished work, or a moment you wish had gone differently. Give yourself room to reflect, learn, and recognize what went well, too. A difficult moment does not erase the good you did. Thank you for the patience, effort, and heart you bring to TCUSD. Every role matters, and the choices we make each day help build the district our students deserve. Have a FANTASTIC Friday and a WONDERFUL weekend. Rest, spend time with the people you love, and take care of yourself. One District. One Team. One Purpose.
Stronger Together,
