Moving Forward Together! Important Arizona Education Updates

Good afternoon, TCUSD Family!
I wanted to share some important updates from the Arizona State Board of Education's October 26 meeting. As professional educators, it is important that we understand what is happening at the state level and how those decisions connect to the work we do for our kids every single day.
Here are a few highlights:
School Letter Grades Are Coming!
The State Board approved the 2025–2026 accountability cut scores, and school letter grades are expected to be released publicly before November 1. While these letter grades are one measure of school performance, I want to emphasize something I have shared since arriving at TCUSD:
Our greatest measure of success is the growth and achievement of our students! Whether we are looking at assessment results, classroom engagement, student work, or individual growth, our focus must remain on making a difference for EVERY student.
Professional Teaching Standards
The State Board also released proposed revisions to Arizona's Professional Teaching Standards for public feedback. This connects directly to our continued focus on high-quality instruction, meaningful professional development, and supporting our teachers with the tools and resources they need to be successful.
English Learners and Student Achievement
The Board also addressed accountability measures and proposed Structured English Immersion endorsement frameworks. These discussions remind us of the importance of differentiation, strong Tier 1 instruction, and ensuring ALL students have access to meaningful learning opportunities.
So, What Does This Mean for TCUSD?
It means we keep doing the work! We continue strengthening our PLCs, aligning professional development with classroom needs, supporting our teachers, and most importantly, looking for EVIDENCE that our students are learning and growing. I have said it before, and I will continue saying it: We are not doing this work simply to earn a letter grade. We are doing it because our KIDS deserve the very best education we can provide!
I appreciate the dedication and hard work happening throughout our district. We have incredible people doing incredible things, and I am excited about where we are headed! Let's keep supporting one another, celebrating our successes, and raising the bar for our students! One District. One Team. One Purpose.
Stronger Together,
