Friday Reflection: Keep Moving Forward
Good morning, TCUSD Family,
As we head into the final day of another week, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to focus on everything that still needs to be done. I know I do it. There is always another issue to work through, another decision to make, another email waiting, or something we could be doing better. In a school district, I’m not sure that list ever really gets shorter. But I also don’t want us to get so focused on what needs fixing that we miss the good things happening right in front of us.
We are still early in this school year. We’re learning. We’re adjusting. We’re figuring out some things as we go. and I certainly am too. Not everything is going to go perfectly, and I don’t expect it to. What I do expect is that when we find something that could be better, we don’t just complain about it or accept that “this is how we’ve always done it.” We ask a different question:
What can we do to make it better?
Sometimes the answer will be simple. Sometimes it won’t be. Sometimes we may try something and realize we need to adjust again. That’s part of getting better. I’ve said from the beginning that I don’t expect TCUSD to change overnight. Real improvement doesn’t happen that way. It happens in one classroom, one student, one conversation, one decision, and sometimes one problem at a time.
So, as we finish this week, don’t let the things that didn’t go perfectly outweigh the things that did. If you helped a student, supported a coworker, solved a problem, tried something new, or simply showed up each day determined to give kids your best, that mattered.
We have plenty of work ahead of us. I know that. But I also believe there are a lot of opportunities ahead of us. And I’d much rather spend our energy figuring out what we CAN do than worrying about everything we can’t. Let’s finish Friday strong for our kids, and then I hope you get some time this weekend to rest, recharge, and spend time with the people who matter to you. Thank you for everything you do for TCUSD.
