TCUSD Weather and Transportation Update: Monday, October 26, 2026

Good afternoon, TCUSD Families, Staff, and Community!
I hope everyone is having a safe and restful weekend! First, I want to take a moment to thank our families, staff, and community for your patience, understanding, and support as we continue navigating the challenges brought on by the recent weather and flooding throughout our area. I know the past several days have not been easy for many of our families, and I want you to know that we recognize the challenges you are facing.
Tuba City Unified School District will be OPEN tomorrow, Monday, October 26, 2026, and schools will operate on their regular schedules.
However, due to recent flooding, road erosion, and deteriorating road conditions in several areas, our Transportation Department has identified locations where temporary adjustments to bus routes and pick-up locations are necessary. Our responsibility is to make decisions that prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff while maintaining access to educational services whenever it is safe and feasible to do so.
IMPORTANT TRANSPORTATION UPDATES FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2026.
The following temporary transportation adjustments below will be in place:
Veterans Memorial Park Area
- Bus pick-up location: Tonalea General Store
- Pick-up window: 6:05 AM – 6:20 AM
Wildcat Peak Area
- Bus pick-up location: Route 21 entrance
- Pick-up window: 5:50 AM – 6:05 AM
Billy Springs Road Area
- Bus pick-up location: Old Airport Road
- Approximate pick-up time: 6:35 AM
Lower Moenave Area
- Pick-up time: 5:30 AM
These adjustments are necessary because certain roads may not currently be suitable for safe school bus travel. We understand that alternate pick-up locations and earlier departure times may create additional challenges for families, particularly those already dealing with the effects of recent weather. Please know that these decisions are not made lightly. We are working to maintain transportation services as consistently and safely as possible while responding to changing road conditions.
A MESSAGE TO OUR FAMILIES
I also want to emphasize something that is extremely important to me. While our schools will be open tomorrow, I recognize that road conditions are not the same for every family or every community. Some families may still be experiencing washed-out roads, difficult travel conditions, or other challenges resulting from the recent flooding. I understand that getting your children to school may be more difficult than usual. Please do not place yourself or your children in an unsafe situation attempting to reach a bus stop or school. If road conditions prevent your child from safely traveling to school or reaching an alternate bus stop, please communicate directly with your child's school as soon as possible. Our school administrators will work with families to address attendance concerns in accordance with district attendance procedures and applicable Arizona requirements. We want our students in school, learning, and growing, but we also recognize that safety must remain our priority.
CONTINUED MONITORING AND COMMUNICATION
Our Transportation Department and district leadership will continue monitoring road conditions and evaluating transportation routes as circumstances change. If additional adjustments become necessary, we will communicate those changes to families as promptly as possible through our district communication channels. I also encourage families to allow additional travel time, exercise caution around damaged roads, and stay informed of any updates affecting their communities.
TO OUR TCUSD FAMILY
I know the recent weather has impacted more than just our school schedules. It has affected homes, roads, transportation, daily routines, and, most importantly, the lives of people throughout our communities. I want our families to know that we see you, we hear you, and we care about what you are experiencing. To our Transportation Department, maintenance teams, school administrators, teachers, and support staff, thank you for continuing to put our students first and helping us navigate these challenges. To our parents and families, thank you for your continued communication, flexibility, and partnership. Your support makes a tremendous difference.
As I have shared before, we are more than just a school district. We are a community, and we are stronger when we work together. Please continue taking care of yourselves, your families, and one another. We look forward to welcoming our Warriors back to school tomorrow!
Stronger Together,
Scott Nedrow
Superintendent
