Important Weather Update: TCUSD Schools & Offices Closed Friday, October 23, 2026

Good afternoon, TCUSD Family!
I want to share an important update regarding our school schedule for tomorrow, Friday, October 23, 2026.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families as our top priority, TCUSD will observe another Mud Day tomorrow, Friday, October 23, 2026. All schools and district offices will remain closed.
I recognize that this will be our second consecutive Mud Day, and I want to take a moment to explain the reasoning behind this decision. As I shared yesterday, a Mud Day is a weather-related school closure due to road conditions that may make travel unsafe for our students and staff, particularly those traveling on dirt and unpaved roads. With the significant moisture our area has received, many of these roads can become muddy, difficult to navigate, and potentially unsafe for our school buses, staff, and families.
One of the unique challenges we face as a district is the large geographic area we serve. While some roads may appear safe and accessible, conditions can be very different just a few miles away, especially in our more rural communities. We must consider the safety of every student and staff member, including those who travel considerable distances to and from school each day.
I also want everyone to understand that these decisions are not made lightly. I recognize the importance of having our students in school, maintaining consistency in instruction, and minimizing disruptions to our families and staff. Every instructional day matters, and I certainly understand the challenges that school closures can create. However, I firmly believe that we cannot place convenience or the desire to maintain our regular schedule ahead of the safety of our Warrior family. When conditions present potential risks, I would much rather make a proactive decision than put someone in a situation where they could be injured or unable to travel safely.
We will continue to monitor weather and road conditions and communicate any additional updates as necessary. Our goal is to return to our normal school schedule as soon as conditions allow us to do so safely. I also want to take a moment to recognize our transportation, maintenance, facilities, safety, and school teams. I know the past several days have required additional coordination, flexibility, and patience. Your efforts behind the scenes to help keep our students, staff, and facilities safe are greatly appreciated.
To all of our staff, thank you for your understanding, professionalism, and continued commitment to our students. I know unexpected changes to our schedules can be challenging, and I appreciate everyone's willingness to adapt as we work through these weather conditions together. Please continue to use caution if you must travel, pay attention to changing road conditions, and take care of yourselves and your families.
At the end of the day, our responsibility extends beyond the classroom. It is about making decisions that reflect how much we value the people who make up our district. Every student, every staff member, and every family matters. Thank you for everything you do for our students, our schools, and one another. I am grateful to be part of this Warrior family.
Stay safe, Warriors! We are truly Stronger Together!

For tomorrow's Mud Day, I also want to share a few reminders regarding employee schedules:
-
11- and 12-month employees who choose to take the day off will need to submit a leave slip in accordance with our regular procedures.
-
9- and 10-month employees will make up the missed day at a later date. We will communicate additional information regarding the make-up schedule once those details have been finalized.
I understand that weather-related closures can create questions about schedules and leave, and I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we work to ensure expectations are communicated clearly and consistently.

I wanted to provide a little additional clarification regarding tomorrow's Mud Day and employee work expectations.
For our 11- and 12-month employees, I am comfortable allowing you to work remotely tomorrow rather than traveling to the district, especially given the road conditions and our focus on everyone's safety. This would also be a great opportunity to complete any outstanding Vector training requirements, which can be accessed and completed from your phone or computer. If you have other work-related responsibilities that can be completed remotely, those are certainly appropriate as well. For those who choose to take the day off rather than work remotely, please submit a leave slip in accordance with our regular procedures.
For our 9- and 10-month employees, we are continuing to review the make-up day requirements and will provide additional information once those details have been finalized. I appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding as we work through these weather-related closures. My goal is to make sure we are keeping everyone safe while also providing reasonable opportunities for our staff to continue their work. Thank you all for everything you do, and please stay safe!
Stronger Together,
