Tuba City High School Congratulations to the TCHS Class of 2024
“I look at each of you this morning and I see positive change and progress,” said President Nygren. “I see our future doctors, lawyers, engineers or social justice advocates. I see the leaders who will continue to protect the Navajo Nation from the things that have impacted them.”
On Sat., May, 18, 121 students, proudly wore their green and white caps and gowns in the Tuba City High School gym.
The commencement ceremony started off with a welcome address in four different languages, Navajo, Hopi, Spanish, and Tagalog showing Tuba City High School’s dedication towards nurturing its students.
“The mission of your teachers and administrators is to be positive so that in the future you will rise above all challenges,” said President Nygren. “You are more than capable when you keep a growth mindset, always maintain respect, and embrace lifelong learning.”
On May 17, President Nygren issued an executive order declaring any school with a Navajo population, on or off the reservation, will allow students to wear any Native American accessory.
President Nygren saw the love given to each student by their families with feathers, necklaces, leis.
“Be proud to wear your beaded graduation caps or your feathered plumes. This is how we express achievement in our cultures,” said President Nygren. “As the Navajo Nation, we know how critical it is to include language and cultural education in our classrooms and in graduation ceremonies.”
President Nygren knows the students will all encounter more obstacles in whatever course they choose but told the students to remember who they are and where they come from.
Parents, relatives, friends and faculty flooded the gym floor to show how proud they are of their students who never gave up.
