The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children’s picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle, first published by the World Publishing Company in 1969, later published by Penguin Putnam. It features a caterpillar who eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly. The winner of many children’s literature awards and a major graphic design award, it was voted the number two children’s picture book in a 2012 survey of School Library Journal readers.  Grades K-3

The Rainbow Fish

The Rainbow Fish is an award-winning children’s book drawn and written by Marcus Pfister, and translated into English by J. Alison James. The book is best known for its morals about the value of being an individual and for the distinctive shiny foil scales of Rainbow Fish. DHX Media turned the story into a 26-episode animated television series of the same name, which has aired on the HBO Family television channel in the United States since 1999.  Grades K-3

The Road Not Taken

“The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. Originally published in 1916 under the title Mountain Interval, this volume contains many of Frost’s finest and most moving poems. In addition to the title poem: “An Old Man’s Winter Night,” “In the Home Stretch,” “Meeting and Passing,” “Putting in the Seed,” “A Time to Talk,” many more. All complete and unabridged. Includes a selection from the Common Core State Standards Initiative.  Grades 4-6

The BFG

Roald Dahl is Dr. Roberson’s favorite author. The BFG (short for “Big Friendly Giant”) was first published in 1982. The book was an expansion of a story told in Danny, the Champion of the World, an earlier Dahl book. An animated film based on the book was released in 1989 with David Jason providing the voice of the BFG and Amanda Root as the voice of Sophie. It has also been adapted as a theatre performance.

Bridge to Terabithia
